“Think” to Lose Weight?

You’ve heard it said, “YOU are what YOU eat,” right? I think we all have. But I was reminded of something very important today from a very wise and influential person, Brendon Burchard. He showed me “You are what you think.” And how to think, THIN! But what he said flies in the face of movies like “The Secret.” Why? Well, here’s why…

…without the information he shares you can actually get the wrong idea altogether and think that you can just think the right things in a vacuum. But, here’s the truth: you can’t. I won’t re-create here what he shares on his video, but let me take and apply what he is saying in a way that will will allow you to succeed in losing weight, burning fat, and experiencing wellness and health at an entirely new level.

So, let’s create a scenario that may or may not be true for you, but has happened to me in some way. Let’s say you have decided to lose weight and get in shape or burn more fat and get your health in order and you write all that down and set goals and get your “intention” right, as those guru’s tell you to. You even think about it in the morning first thing. Maybe you even pray about it and write a note on your mirror. As for as the self-help goes, you’re doing pretty good right?

Well, here’s the problem, “intention” without talking about how you get there and where you go from there is like telling someone with a car to get England from America without a ship or airplane or bridge. You can imagine being there all you want and imagine what it will feel like and the stories you’ll tell, but that doesn’t get you there, does it?

In short, you need to control the some things before and after you set your intention in order to arrive at the “island” of the new you, to lose weight and burn fat and have the health you want. Let me explain.

Before intention comes the process of identifying what you are receiving around you–in your conscious mind. And comes after you have interpreted that information. In other words, first you have the data that you come into contact with, then you examine it as good or bad, then you take and determine whether it applies to you and then and only then do you set your intention. Are you with me?

Our intentions are only as good as the data we expose ourselves to, how well we filter it, and how well we apply it to our lives. That way we can determine whether or not going to England in a car from the US is really a good or bad idea!

In terms of losing weight, achieving optimal wellness or getting your health back on track, this would mean that you need to make sure you are surrounding yourself with good quality information about losing weight and applying it to your life…and THEN setting the right intention. Simply put, the best intention for weight loss and burning fat will not come by watching TV all day where everybody talks about being fat as being OK. At some point that will shape your ability to decide between good and bad and eventually shape your intentions. Make sense?

For now, that’s it, but check in next time to apply the rest of the process so that you can build the “bridge” from where you are now to where you want to be–from flab to fab!

Meat and Antibiotics: Getting Our Animals Off Drugs

Posted by BRYAN WALSH Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 12:55 pm

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)—gingerly, gingerly—took a step on Monday towards addressing one of the most fundamental but unknown threats to public health: the overuse of antibiotics in animal food and water. The FDA said in a new policy document that the uses of antibiotics for agriculture should be limited to treated sick animals, and that veterinarians should be involved in giving out the drugs. (See the FDA document here.) The change came in part out of concerns that the use of antibiotics on animals was helping to breed resistant bacteria—an estimated 100,000 people a year now die from hospital-acquired bacterial infections that can no longer be treated with most antibiotics, thanks to resistance.

While doing nothing to change the present oversight of antibiotics, the document is the first signal in years that the agency intends to rejoin the battle to crack down on agricultural uses of antibiotics that many infectious disease experts oppose.

Doesn’t sound like a big deal, right? Drugs like penicillin and tetracycline were developed to help sick people, and it might stand to reason that they should be preserved for use in sick people—not to speed the growth of pigs, chicken and cattle. And given the scale of the problem—according to the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), about 13 million lbs. or 70% of all antibiotics in the U.S. goes to food animal production—the FDA’s statement was just a baby step. As Deputy FDA Commissioner Joshua Sharfstein told reporters in a news conference after the recommendation was made: “We’re not expecting people to pick up this guidance and change their practice tomorrow. This is the first step in the FDA establishing the principles from which we could then move, if necessary, toward other mechanisms of oversight, which is regulation.” Sharfstein was so cautious he might as well have been wearing a flak jacket and a crash helmet while speaking.

But he has reason to be careful. the powerful agriculture industry has fought every attempt by federal regulators to crack down on the use of antibiotics in animals—and they’ve won every time . The meat industry argues that antibiotic use in animals is far lower than its critics say—the Animal Health Institute, a trade group, estimates that just 13% of all agricultural antibiotics are used for growth promotion, with the rest going to treat sick animals or prevent illness. And they’ll fight hard against any attempt by the government to limit their ability to dispense drugs to the millions of swine, chicken and cattle being raised for food in the U.S. “Show us the science that use of antibiotics in animal production is causing this antibiotic resistance,” Dave Warner of the National Pork Council told the Washington Post.

It is difficult to make the direct connection between an antibiotic being used on a pig in Iowa and a person dying from drug-resistant Salmonella in a hospital in New York. But there’s no disputing that doctors are increasingly worried about the rise of resistant bacteria and the threat the problem poses to each of us. The Centers for Disease Control found in its 2005 annual report that half of all Campylobacter infections are drug resistant. One in five Salmonella infections, and nearly 100,000 Salmonella infections would resist treatment with at least five antibiotics, according to Congressional testimony in 2009 by Margaret Mellon, the director of the food and environment program at the UCS. The World Health Organization has sounded the alarm of antibiotic resistance, and the Institute of Medicine has estimated that longer hospital stays because of resistant food-borne microbes cost the U.S. an additional $4 to $5 billion a year in health care costs—plus all the additional time sick people have to take off work. Superbugs like MRSA—Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus—are truly scary, resistant to nearly every antibiotic we have at our disposal. We’re in an arms race with bacteria—and we’re in danger of losing, as Dr. Ken Harvey of La Trobe University’s School of Public Health in Melbourne told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation today:

“Although we’ve developed new antibiotics, the more we’ve used them the more the bacteria have become resistant. It’s sort of Darwinian selection of the species if you like.” Dr Harvey says bacteria have the edge in this evolutionary battle. “We’re grossly outnumbered by bacteria and they’ve got very efficient mechanisms of mutating, becoming resistant, passing on that mechanism of resistance to other germs.”

And a small but growing number of studies are connecting the use of antibiotics on farms to resistant bacteria in hospitals. A strain of MRSA responsible for 20% of all MRSA infections in the Netherlands has been shown to be transmitted from pigs to farmers and their families, and hospital staff. Even news organizations as mainstream as CBS have begun to raise questions about the connection between antibiotic use in our farms and resistant bacteria, as this Katie Couric investigation from February shows.

The meat industry has argued that restricting antibiotics in animal feed will lead to unbearably high costs, but other countries have already taken that step without destroying their to make bacon. In Europe, Denmark led the way by banning antibiotics for growth promotion in 1998, after concerns grew about resistant bacteria. In the years since the industry has thrived—Danish swine production  from 18.4 million in 1992 to 27.1 million in 2008, while total antibiotic use decline 51% from an all-time high in 1992. I had a chance to see the situation for myself when I was in Denmark last December for the UN climate change summit. Pork farmers told me that the rule was a pain when it was first put into practice, but that they’d adjusted, taking better care of their pigs because they knew that they could no longer rely as heavily on drugs. (Antibiotics were still available for sick animals, but were much more closely regulated.) And in 2006 the European Union followed suit and banned antibiotics for growth promotion.

Given all that, what the FDA did on Monday is too weak, not too strong—as some public health groups argued. “Te FDA has proposed good steps, but they have not gone far enough or moved fast enough,” said Representative Louise Slaughter of New York, who happens to be the only microbiologist in Congress. “We cannot wait any longer.” Given how strong the farm lobby is in the U.S.—which I can tell you from experience—we might be waiting forever.

The Value and Focus of Women

On today’s success call with Dr Randy Horning, he shared some great insight on Women and Business. I wanted to share the notes with you here. Let’s empower and appreciate the women in our lives so that they can achieve greater success and contribute more to society!

The Value and Focus of Women

One explanation has to do with the fact that while women in the United States start their own businesses at roughly twice the rate of men, they are still playing catch-up in most parts of the world. “Women are still at the beginning of their journey to entrepreneurship or higher levels of entrepreneurship,” says Sharon Hadary, the former and founding executive director of the Center for Women’s Business Research. According to that group, only 20 percent of all businesses over $1 million are women-owned enterprises.

Then there are more fundamental issues related to personal goals. It seems that men more often define success in monetary terms while women focus on vision and mission. “Men tend to start businesses to grow them to be large and to be the boss while women start them to do something meaningful and to make a difference,” notes Hadary, who now consults on women’s leadership through her firm Sharon Hadary & Co.

Becoming a billionaire isn’t their objective,” she adds, “As women, many are less likely to have a goal of generating personal wealth, though we are starting to see more and more of that motivation among the younger generation.” Instead they are typically more focused on building companies that reflect their values, provide employment opportunities, do what’s important to them and have the opportunity to fulfill family goals.

Teresa Nelson, McCandless Chair in Entrepreneurship at the Simmons School of Management concurs: “Research shows that women are drawn to organizations that provide values beyond wealth.”

Take the Risk!

“No risk, pay the cost.  Know risk, reap the rewards.”
There’s a two sentence summary of the new book by Dr Ben Carson called “Take the risk.”  We do live in a risk-adverse culture and we put safety above everything.  We’re in the car-buying process and we want to take a pre-owned car in to the mechanic to look it over, and then we start negotiating on the extended warranty.  Dr Carson asks you to consider the following:  “by insulating ourselves from the unknown – the risks of life – we miss the great adventure of living our lives to their full potential.”

Without a doubt, I will say that life is lived fuller when risks are taken! In our case, the chronic health condition that Arthur was going through looked hopeless.  The only options medical were a radical, experimental, drug that caused more harm than the potential symptom relief.  And it was thousands of dollars out of pocket every month since it was not covered by insurance.  After doing some research we chose the natural route – not by chance, but by calculating the risks on all sides!  And thankfully, by God’s grace, and the technology of glyconutrients that he brought through this Christian company, Arthur is no longer suffering like he once did and he has been completely drug free for a years!

BUY THE BOOK HERE

Dr Carson outlines his health challenge in chapter 13 of his book.  This is what he thought when he got the news of his test results, “Not until I was driving home that day did it hit me.  I remember thinking, Wow, my life may not be anywhere near as long as I thought it would be.  I began to think of all the people I was going to be abandoning: my wife, my three sons, my mother, my colleagues, my patients.  I thought of the things I’d started that I wouldn’t be able to finish.”  He goes on to list the suggestions everyone started flooding him with and how impressed he was with glyconutrients.  “Within a week of starting a glyco-nutrient regimen, my symptoms completely resolved.”

This book challenges us to “reaffirm that our lives have great purpose, and that risking wisely is the gateway to dreams fulfilled and a legacy of influence in the world around us.”  I challenge you to open your mind whether it’s in your relationships, business, or health – that when options are presented and you don’t see a clear picture right away, do your research, calculate the costs, and TAKE THE RISK!

One Nation, Overweight

Why is it that the richest nation in the world is also the fattest in the world? Why do we eat so much and yet we’re so unhealthy as a nation?  Why is it that when the nation started it’s low-fat craze, it started the trend for higher body fat percentage and obesity climbed through the roof?  There are numerous reasons, but it’s a fact that obesity is a major issue and it’s out of control!  The saddest part is watching the youth of America suffering lifestyle related severe health challenges at such a young age.  Check out this video by CNN called “One Nation, Overweight”!

Too many are dying from obesity-related health challenges and this current generation is projected to live SHORTER than their parents! We can blame many people… the food companies for putting out junk, fast food companies advertising junk, tv networks for putting on junk for people to watch, and on and on.  But how about taking personal responsibility for what we put in our mouths and living a wellness-focused lifestyle?  Anyone heard of Nutrition, Water, Exercise, Sunlight, Temperance, good Air, Rest, and Trust in God?

Do we really want the government to tell you what to put in your mouth?  (Especially since so many of the food/drug companies out there are “influencing” them with lobby money?”  Please say NO!    You have options, and I’m not talking about surgery, or drugs!  You can go Natural, support your body’s original function, GAIN LEAN MUSCLE, and BURN UNWANTED FAT, especially burn fat in your mid-section!!

If you are tired of being a statistic and want a  GUARANTEED solution to your weight issue, we have a solution that is clinically proven to give you results.  Check out the video below!  It’s definitely a boost most of us need to get the motivation to begin or continue a wellness-lifestyle!  We’re here to help – email, write, or call us and we’ll walk you through our program .. to a NEW YOU!

We still don’t know the extent of the devastation that 200,000 gallons a day of crude oil spewing into the Gulf waters will have on our country. So far, it’s proving to be one of the largest human-caused environmental disasters in U.S. history. We know that the effects on the animal and plant populations have been disastrous, and we’ll be watching closely as the they continue to unfold. However, one question remains: Will this oil spill affect our health?

The short answer is, yes. There are well-documented analyses on the effects of environmental pollution of previous oil spills — some which have occurred inland and certainly the Exxon Valdez spill in the Alaskan waters of the Prince William Sound in 1989. You have to remember that it only takes about a quart of crude oil to pollute 150,000 gallons of water. Crude oil contains substances such as benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that have been proven to cause severe reactions in humans — some mild, such as nausea, vomiting and fatigue. But studies have also linked exposure to these compounds to more serious conditions like leukemia and certain types of cancers.

Another negative health effect that could come from this massive environmental catastrophe is the potential for exposure to heavy metals, such as lead — which we know can be very detrimental to the health of an unborn child — resulting in low birth weight, developmental delays, miscarriage and even stillbirth. So pregnant women are especially vulnerable to these heavy metals.

Look, we all know what happens to us humans when our food chain gets contaminated with chemicals and the havoc it can wreak on our health. So the bottom line the best protection we have a situation like this is educating ourselves. The government is doing what they can to clean up and prevent human consumption of contaminated food, but we should also practice personal responsibility for the things we eat. It’s important that attention be paid to the communities in the immediate areas of potential exposure. And certainly, for seafood lovers like myself, be aware of where your food is coming from.

The potential for health problems resulting from airborne pollutants where oil is washing ashore is minimal. But for those living in affected areas living with pulmonary diseases, like asthma or emphysema, aromatic irritants could enhance symptoms. As of now, there haven’t been any reports of respiratory side effects, but just keep an eye on the story and take the proper precautions.

Finally, let us pray for the people of Louisiana and surrounding coastal communities, and for the fisherman whose livelihood will surely be affected by this terrible accident. In an area that has suffered great losses at the hands of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, it’s imperative that we continue to show our love and support for the communities that have been a source of joy for Americans.

The Oil spill and your health

How can the oil spill affect your health?  Read the WebMD article for details.  Prevention is the best decision so stay clear of seafood from that area (I’d personally recommend cutting out seafood altogether for a variety of other reasons) and take care of your lungs!  Keep the fumes and toxins as far away as possible.  And then double up on the most effective anti-oxidant protection you can get – and we can show you a solution that has clinical studies in blood serum to combat the oxidative stress in your body!

Gulf Coast Oil Slick Could Have Impact on Seafood and Air Quality

By Denise Mann
WebMD Health News

April 30, 2010 — The Deepwater Horizon incident occurred about 50 miles southeast of Venice, La., on April 22 after an explosion and fire damaged a Transocean oil rig, causing it to burn for hours and sink. There were approximately 700,000 gallons of fuel onboard before the fire, and exactly how much of this fuel burned before it sank is not known, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Silver Spring, Md.

The spill could affect hundreds of species of fish, birds, and other wildlife along the Gulf Coast, which is one of the world’s richest seafood grounds. According to NOAA, there may be risks for people working as oil spill responders, observers, and in wildlife rehabilitation due to inhalation of fumes.

Oil-derived compounds including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) tend to be readily cleared from fish and mammals, so eating fish after an oil spill generally does not pose a health risk to humans. But oysters, shrimp, and crab do not readily clear PAHs and are more likely to accumulate these potentially toxic substances after oil exposure, NOAA states.

These compounds can also be toxic for fish eggs and larvae and may can cause a wide range of health problems in other marine species.

Impact on Air Quality

LuAnn White, PhD, a professor of environmental health sciences and the director of the Tulane Center for Applied Environmental Public Health in New Orleans, is on the front lines of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

“We are watching it very closely,” she tells WebMD. “The odor from the spill could affect people with respiratory diseases such as asthma and emphysema, but the spill happened off shore, so that is good because there is no one out there,” she says. The occupational health issues are immense, but proper safeguards are being taken by oil spill responders and others involved in the clean-up process, she adds.

The oil involved in the spill was sweet crude oil. “It didn’t have sulfur, so it doesn’t smell as bad as other types of oil and it is composed of lighter compounds that will evaporate,” she explains.

So far, she says, the odor is light and transient.

There has been other reassuring news regarding air quality, White tells WebMD. “There has been air monitoring along the coastline and that didn’t pick up anything so far.”

Touching the oil can cause skin irritation and burning, she says. “Standing next to it and not touching it will not cause any problems.”

As far as drinking water concerns, there are none. “The Gulf of Mexico is a saltwater body, not a freshwater source, so drinking water contamination is not an issue,” she says.

Seafood Contamination

The risk of contaminated seafood reaching consumers is also relatively low, she says. “Fisherman won’t be allowed to collect seafood in any area with an oil spill, so seafood caught will come from other areas.”

Recall: Lettuce

Did you see the news about how Lettuce is now recalled due to a strain of E. Coli in pre-shredded Romaine?  At least 30 people in four states got sick, 12 went into the hospital and 3 had kidney failure!  The outbreaks happened in Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Tennessee… all from a farm in Arizona.  So not only was that lettuce shipped over thousands of miles, it was contaminated.

CHECK OUT the article below and the VIDEO at this link, and then leave a comment about how you feel about the sad state of our food supply!

E. coli Outbreak From Romaine Lettuce Widens

Daniel J. DeNoon

May 13, 2010 — At least 30 people in four states have been sickened by a rare, virulent strain of E. coli in pre-shredded Romaine lettuce.

Twelve of the victims have been hospitalized, three with kidney failure. There have been no deaths to date. Some cases may have gone unreported because many labs do not test for the E. coli strain causing the outbreak. Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Tennessee have reported cases.

The contaminated Romaine lettuce was sold by restaurants and by grocery/deli salad bars and processed by Freshway Foods in Sidney, Ohio. An unopened bag of Freshway shredded Romaine lettuce was found to carry the E. coli with the same genetic fingerprints as E. coli isolated from patients.

Freshway has recalled all Romaine lettuce with a use-by date of May 12 or earlier.

Freshway got the lettuce from a farm in Yuma, Ariz. Another lettuce distributor, Vaughan Foods, has also recalled lettuce from the same farm. However, no illnesses have yet been traced to lettuce distributed by Vaughan.

Lettuce harvested from other areas does not appear to be associated with the outbreak, the FDA investigation suggests.

The illnesses occurred between April 10 and April 26. Because of a lag time between the last reported illness and testing, it’s possible new illnesses may still be occurring.

People with E. coli infection usually get diarrhea and abdominal cramps for two to eight days after eating a contaminated food. Most people recover within a week, but some cases are much more severe and last much longer.

Some people may develop a form of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome or HUS. HUS tends to appear just as the diarrhea is getting better. Symptoms may include fever, abdominal pain, pale skin, fatigue, irritability, decreased urine output, unexplained bruises or bleeding from the nose and mouth, and swelling of the face, hands, feet, or body.

Seek immediate medical care if these symptoms appear after several days of diarrhea.

How badly are you “RUSTING”?

Do you understand what oxidation means? Think of a car that’s been scratched up.  Add to that the humid, salty air of south Florida and BAM! You have rust!

Oxidation means:  ox·i·da·tion (ŏk’sĭ-dā’shən)  n.

  1. The combination of a substance with oxygen.
  2. A reaction in which the atoms in an element lose electrons and the valence of the element is correspondingly increased.

Male fish turning into Female fish… are you safe?

This is scary stuff!  You can not read this and see this and believe that it doesn’t affect humans!  The largest organ of your body is your skin.  Drinking filtered water is great but you absorb the most water when you bathe so please consider getting a filter for your shower, too.  Read/Watch this and let me know how you feel! ~ Suji & Arthur

According to World News April 20, 2010: More and more male fish in the Potomac River are exhibiting female traits, but the reasons for the growing number of intersex fish are not known.

The Potomac Conservancy says more than 80 percent of the river’s male fish are producing eggs or exhibiting other female characteristics.

The Potomac River supplies much of the region’s drinking water, and that has the group calling on Congress to solve the fish mystery.

Scientists say chemicals that mimic hormones and disrupt the endocrine system are believed to be the leading reason for the intersex conditions.

The chemicals may be birth control pills, pharmaceuticals or some of the newer herbicides and pesticides that are flushed into wastewater or that run off farms and feedlots.

Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., is sponsoring a bill to study intersex fish problems. He says he wants to know more about the chemicals.

“Why they are so prevalent in the water? Why they are causing these fish with both sexual organs and if there isn’t some kind of connection with human diseases,” he says.

The Potomac River isn’t the only body of water where the problems have surfaced. A U.S. Geological Survey found intersex fish in about one third of 111 sites tested in 2009.

our failure to use the tools that God had given us.”

Excerpt from Unlimited Wealth — Introduction
For the past four hundred years, virtually all practitioners of the dismal science we call economics have agreed on one basic premise: namely that a society’s wealth is determined by its supply of physical resources–its land, labor, minerals, water, and so on. And underlying this premise has been another, even more profound, assumption–one supposedly so obvious that it is rarely mentioned: namely, that the entire world contains a limited amount of these physical resources.
This means, from an economic point of view, that life is what the mathematicians call a zero-sum game. After all, if there are only limited resources, one person’s gain must be another person’s loss; the richer one person is, the poorer his neighbors must be.
Over the centuries, this view of the world has been responsible for innumerable wars, revolutions, political movements, government policies, business strategies, and possibly a religion or two.
Once upon a time, it may even have been true. But not anymore.
Whether or not we ever did, today we do not live in a resource-scarce environment. That may seem hard to believe, but the businessperson and the
politician–as well as the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker–who
continue to behave as if they were operating in the old zero-sum world will soon find themselves eclipsed by those who recognize the new realities and
react accordingly.
What are these new realities? To put it simply, we live today in a world of
effectively unlimited resources–a world of unlimited wealth. In short, we live in what one might call a new Alchemic world.
The ancient alchemists sought to discover the secret of turning base metals into gold; they tried to create great value where little existed before. But an analysis of their writings shows that they were on a spiritual as well as a monetary quest. They believed that by discovering how to make gold they could offer unlimited prosperity to all of God’s children. And, although in our era the term alchemy is often equated with “false science” and fraud, the ancient alchemists were successful in their quest in a manner that they could not have anticipated.
Consider this: if the ancient alchemists had succeeded in fabricating gold,
gold would have become worthless and their efforts would have been for naught. Yet, through their attempts to make gold, they laid the foundation for modern science, which today has accomplished exactly what the alchemists hoped to achieve: the ability to create great value where little existed before. We have achieved this ability through the most common, the most powerful, and the most consistently underestimated force in our lives today–technology.
In the alchemic world in which we now live, a society’s wealth is still a
function of its physical resources, as traditional economics has long maintained. But unlike the outdated economist, the alchemist of today recognizes that technology controls both the definition and the supply of
physical resources. In fact, for the past few decades, it has been the backlog
of unimplemented technological advances, rather than unused physical resources, that has been the determinant of real growth.

An Economic Foundation for Peace

I flew helicopter missions over the jungles of Vietnam, and I know from firsthand experience what war is like. I also know that inequity is one of the core causes of war. As long as the gap between the rich and the poor widens, it is going to be tough to create conditions of peace. We can march for peace, give speeches endorsing peace, form committees to study peace, and promote peace, but it’s going to be impossible to actually create that peace we talk about unless and until we can begin to bring substantially more economic opportunity to many millions of people.

And as huge a goal as that sounds, that is exactly what network marketing is doing.

Today, many network marketing companies are spreading peace through economic opportunity all over the world. Not only are network marketing companies thriving in all the major capitals of the world, but many are also working in developing nations, bringing financial hope to millions of people who live in impoverished countries. Most traditional corporations can only survive where people are rich and have money to spend.

It is time that people all over the world had an equal opportunity to enjoy a rich and abundant life, rather than spend their lives working hard only to make the rich richer.

It’s time you had that opportunity.

Welcome to the 21st century.

Cracking the Stem Cell Code

Stem cells have received a lot of media attention in the last few years. What we know is that every human being has them, in varying amounts, depending on several factors. I think the important question is, “How do we increase our bodies’ production of these cells when we need them?

Living Life Intentionally

Have you ever had a dream or goal that was so huge that it seemed to consume your every waking hour?  One that was the first thing you thought of in the morning and the last thing you thought of or even prayed about at night.  That something that burned deep within you with an intensity that was like nothing else?

If you have never experienced such feelings then maybe you have stopped dreaming.  People just like you live life based on circumstance rather than choice and commitment.  Life unfolds and they live with the hand they are dealt.

Big Dreams And Goals

What if you decided, in this moment, what your life would look like and actually took the action to create that life?  Some of you, right now, are thinking, “I wish I could do that but too many people make decisions that impact my life.”  “I have no control over what they want.”  And you are right.  But you do have control over what you want, your dreams, and your goals.

Eight years ago when I first attended a Klemmer & Associates Personal Mastery seminar, I experienced such a life altering weekend that I wanted every person on the planet to have this same opportunity.  For me, it was as though I had been awakened after a lifetime of walking dead.  You too may know the feeling of sucking up oxygen and taking up space.

I had worked in a career for 30-years and really didn’t have much to show for all that time.  But now, I was feeling fully alive and I wanted to get the word out.  My wife and I began to pray for family and close friends who we intended to receive this gift of life.

Notice I said “intended.”  Brian Klemmer says in his book, If How-To’s Were Enough We Would All Be Skinny, Rich & Happy, that “Intention is not merely will power but a deep state of knowingness that comes from a deeper level.  It is a deep clarity with intensity.  It is focus, certainty and commitment.”  And boy did I have that after Personal Mastery.

Our children, grandchildren and extended family were the first ones we held an intention around attending a Personal Mastery.  Even when they said there was no way they’d ever attend such a seminar, we didn’t back off our intention.  By becoming so clear about what we wanted to create we noticed that how we showed up changed.  My Beingness shifted.  I became more open, trusting, compassionate and vulnerable in my relationships.  And it was noticed by others, so much so that in 2005 I became a team member of Klemmer & Associates’ Advanced Leadership Seminar.

Stephen Covey says, “Anytime you think the problem is out there, that is the problem.”  For me that means, one cannot solve issues in relationships until one’s own Beingness shifts.  I shifted and created myself into a completely different person.

One who is accepting of others; one who loves humanity because it is God’s creation; one who trusts easily; one with compassion for mankind; and one who is vulnerable in relationships.  And in so many other ways there is not room here to describe them.  The short of this is by BEING different, I DO different and I HAVE exactly what I want.

Over the years fifteen of my family and extended family (and countless friends and strangers that we have invited) have attended one or more of the Klemmer & Associates seminars.  And this month one more, my son, will attend and all because we declared an intention and maintained focus, clarity and commitment.  My wife, Linda and I are creating the life we desire out of choice and commitment.

You too can live life intentionally.  Join us at a Personal Mastery Seminar at locations across the globe or check out Klemmer & Associates Champions Online Webinar by enrolling at www.klemmer.com.

The Skinny on Fats

What the Latest Research Says About What You Should Be Eating from US News and World Report

http://www.usnews.com/health/diet-fitness/diet/articles/2010/04/01/the-skinny-on-fats-what-the-latest-research-says-about-what-you-should-be-eating.html?PageNr=2

There are plenty of confusing topics in nutrition, but fats may take the cake. Are saturated fats like butter and animal fat terribly harmful? Should you worry about whether you’re eating too much of one kind of polyunsaturated fat and not enough of another? What about olive oil? And shouldn’t we be eating as little fat as possible, since so many of us are, well, fat? The distinctions are “enormously confusing unless you’re a lipid biologist,” says Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition at New York University. There’s a way to translate it all into relatively simple eating advice–more on that later. But first, here’s the skinny on fat.

First, toss out the notion that the lower the fat content in your diet, the better. A certain amount of fat is essential to your body’s functioning. And as you’ve probably heard, all fats are not alike in their effects on blood cholesterol levels, which can affect heart disease risk. Saturated fat, for example, generally increases levels of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol. But while this information was known when the surgeon general issued the first report on nutrition and health in 1988 and the National Academy of Sciences issued its own report in 1989, public health authorities felt that a message to reduce total fat would be best understood by the public. The thought was, says Nestle (who was managing editor of the 1988 report), that since saturated fats from meat and dairy products were the main sources of fat in the American diet, lowering total fat would automatically reduce consumption of saturated fat. That’s certainly true, in theory.

But here’s the rub in practice: “If you take out saturated fat, and you assume someone is in energy balance [i.e. their total calories haven't changed], what do you put in?” says Alice Lichtenstein, a nutritional biochemist and director of the cardiovascular nutrition laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston. As it turns out, what you substitute for saturated fat seems to be important. “People reduced fat and replaced that fat with simple carbohydrates and refined sugar,” says Mimi Guarneri, cardiologist and medical director of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, Calif.

That switch was aided by food companies, with their lines of “low-fat,” yet sugar-filled products. A review published online in January in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said that research actually shows that subbing in a higher carbohydrate intake, especially refined carbs like white bread and sugary cereals, can actually “exacerbate” blood cholesterol problems, including elevated triglycerides and reduced HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels. To improve cholesterol, people should focus on limiting those refined carbs and reducing excess body weight, the review said. So much for unlimited SnackWells.

By contrast, trading saturated fats for polyunsaturated fats–the omega-3 fatty acids found in certain fish and the omega-6 fatty acids in vegetable oils such as safflower and soybean oils–does seem to offer a heart benefit. An analysis of existing research published in March in PLoS Medicine found that consuming those polyunsaturated fats instead of saturated fats reduces the incidence of heart attacks and cardiac death. Based on the evidence, “polyunsaturated fats are the best…fat to be increasing in the diet,” says Dariush Mozaffarian, an author of the study and an assistant professor at the Harvard School of Medicine and co-director of the program in cardiovascular epidemiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Ronald Krauss, senior scientist and director of atherosclerosis research at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, and an author of the ACJN review, agrees. In fact, he says, it’s unclear whether the benefits to cardiac health spring from removing the sat fat or adding the poly. But isn’t saturated fat a “bad” fat? Possibly, but his research, including a meta-analysis also published in the ACJN, found that despite its effects on LDL cholesterol, there’s no evidence dietary saturated fat alone is tied to the risk of coronary heart disease or cardiovascular disease. He also says that even in trials where saturated fats were swapped out in favor of polyunsaturated fats, there was not much benefit in reducing saturated fats below about 9 percent of calories. It may be that saturated fats aren’t as evil as has been thought, but simply allow atherosclerosis to happen without conferring any protection; they raise both LDL and HDL cholesterols, leaving the ratio of the two little changed. By contrast, polyunsaturated fats “move the numbers in the right direction,” says Krauss.

But polyunsaturated fats aren’t free of controversy: namely, whether people should be worried about a too-high ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids in the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in albacore tuna, sardines, walnuts, and tofu, are linked to improvement in some measures of heart-disease risk; omega-6 fatty acids, found in eggs, certain fish, and safflower and soybean oils, may cause inflammation. At one point the ratio of omega-6s to omega-3s in the American diet was about 2:1; now experts say it might be as high as 40:1 or even 50:1. But there’s no good evidence that they can actually cause clinical harm in humans, says Lichtenstein, who suggests people not fixate on the ratio.

What about olive oil, sesame oil, canola oil, and other oils high in monounsaturated fats? While they’re a good replacement for saturated fats, they don’t seem to have the same level of benefits as do polyunsaturated fats, says Mozaffarian. Most of the evidence of benefit has come from observations about the so-called Mediterranean Diet, but the health-conferring element in that eating pattern hasn’t really been nailed down, he says. And if olive oil itself is beneficial, it may not be the monounsaturated fat it contains, but the phytochemicals, But again, Lichtenstein urges people not to get too hung up on that point. Instead, focus on unsaturated fats, period. If you want to cook some things with soybean oil, stir-fry veggies with sesame oil, and make salad dressing with olive oil, that’s fine.

And that brings us to the easy guideline for consuming fat in the most healthful way possible: Think about foods, rather than chemistry, when you head to the supermarket. The fats in food are all mixtures, and you’ll drive yourself crazy attempting to figure out exact proportions, notes Nestle. Besides, fussing over components ignores the way people actually eat. “I’ve never known anyone to sit down to a tub of saturated fat,” says John La Puma, an internist and author of ChefMD’s Big Book of Culinary Medicine: A Food Lover’s Road Map to Losing Weight, Preventing Disease, and Getting Really Healthy. “People eat food, not saturated fat or trans fat or starch or sugar.”

Lichtenstein agrees, saying we should focus on the pattern of eating, not any single dietary component. And research is fairly consistent on what constitutes a healthful eating pattern: a varied diet that’s heavy on the fruits and vegetables, emphasizes whole grains rather than processed ones, focuses on fish and a limited amount of lean meats and lowfat dairy, and includes liquid oils for food preparation. Following that sort of pattern will naturally lead you to “good” sources of fat, and will reduce levels of the not-so-good–including most trans fats, which are still considered the worst of the bunch. (Hydrogenated oils “have nothing but adverse effects,” says Krauss.)

And of course, remember that the quantity, not just the quality, of your food is important, says Nestle. Rather than having his patients count calories, La Puma recommends foods that will make them feel satisfied, gives them smaller plates, advises against skipping breakfast if it makes them ravenous later on, and suggests they try to sit down when they eat. “It reinforces the feeling of eating as something deliberate rather than just grazing,” he says. But even healthy eaters should focus on portion control. “If you eat a lot of nuts, avocados, or olive oil, you’ll get fat,” says Guarneri. And once it’s around your middle, it’s definitely no longer “good” fat.

Omega-3 boosts brain function in boys

New studies prove Omega-3 is a huge help with the function of the brain.  Who doesn’t need a brain boost?  Check out this article and the resources and let me know if you want to compare the conventional Omega product versus our research company’s latest Omega product.   ~Suji Martens

Omega-3 Boosts Brain Function in Boys March 16, 2010 by Dr Mercola

The omega-3 fat DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) may alter the function of the brain associated with working memory, according to results of a new study with healthy boys.

Scientists showed, for the first time using neuro-imaging, that supplementation with DHA alters the functional activity in cortical attention networks in humans.

The study follows hot on the heels of backing from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for DHA-related brain and eye health claims for infants. EFSA’s Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) said DHA levels of 100 mg of per day were appropriate for 7-24 month-old infants, along with 200 mg per day for pregnant and lactating women.

Additionally, supplements of omega-3 fats, vitamins and minerals for prisoners may reduce the number of violent and aggressive episodes, according to another recent study.

Nutritional supplements containing vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and omega-6 fats were associated with a 34 percent reduction in violent incidents, according to findings of a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial with over 200 young adult offenders.

Meanwhile, there was a 14 percent increase in the number of reported violent incidents in participants in a placebo group.

What to look for in vitamin and mineral supplements By Thomas L. Taliaferro, D.C.

Since the 1930’s we have been educated by such governmental agencies as the F.D.A. and U.S.D.A to supplement our diet with vitamins and minerals to prevent certain diseases. Even the AMA has stated every American adult should supplement their diet with vitamins and minerals. Why do we continue to supplement? One reason is that an estimated 90% of our standard American diet (sad for short) is processed. Meat often contains growth hormones and antibiotics. Vegetables and fruits are picked green, before they are ripe and crops are grown in nutrient deficient soil, polluted with pesticides and herbicides.

Farm land used to be cultivated for seven years. One crop a season and left alone for a year to “season” the land for the next crop. Not anymore. Commercial practices of today harvest in one day, rip the next, and plant again. Sometimes up to three or four times a year.

First generation supplements were synthetic (United States Pharmacopeia-USP). These were inexpensive and standardized. The problem becomes obvious when we realize some basic chemistry. The body knows the difference between food that can be properly assimilated and synthetic variants that too often can not. Every single pharmaceutical ever produced has a side effect because the body knows the difference between food and synthetic. “A study published in the Journal of Food Chemistry stated that, with the exception of selenium, less than 10% of the synthetic minerals contained in the most popular brands of multivitamins were in a soluble bioavailable form”. (Proevity, Continuing Education Group) Simply put, a rock is a rock and can not be absorbed as food. This is one reason many physicians believe supplements are nothing more than expensive urine.

Second generation supplements are from whole food. These are from fruit and vegetable extracts as well as from single exotic plants. The problem here is nutrient deficiency, especially in minerals. Also, this category cannot be standardized. You never know how much you are getting from serving to serving. Therefore, whole food supplements cannot be labeled for nutritional values. No single plant, fruit or vegetable on the market today can meet all RDA or DV requirements.

Third generation supplements contain standardized, natural vitamin complexes, standardized, plant derived minerals, standardized plant derived phytochemicals and all sources of all a product should be identified and labeled. We can digest and assimilate a plant that has been grown using hydroponic cultivation techniques. This means all vitamins and minerals are standardized in a special formula and used as food for the plant.

Misleading labeling and claims does more than just drain your wallet. These claims can be dangerous. “Provides you with 2000% of the daily requirement of 90 nutrients.” “Offers the highest absorption.” Are you eating food?

Minerals are typically salts and have less than a 10% absorption/solubility rate.

Chelated minerals are tricks by companies attempting to psych out the body to think a mineral (rock) is actually an amino acid. This has the potential to increase absorption. This is only marginally better than mineral salts.

Plant sourced minerals have an absorption/solubility rate of 80-100%.

Hope for Increasing Bone Density Naturally

How many people do you know that are facing the risk of low bone density? Most of our mothers, aunts, and grandmothers!  It’s scary to think of the potential dangers from the complications.

The market is flooded with drugs which make clams to increase bone density but with each and everyone one of these drugs there are side effects. Many times the side effects end up being worse that having poor bone density.  Women ask frequently – What can I do to increase my bone density without having to worry about the negative side effects that come from taking drugs? There has to be natural elements that will benefit me.

We have now completing our 14th year of the trials and have accumulated over 8,000 DEXA and blood tests from people taking our wellness program. I’m often asked for a “bottom line” describing our findings of our 14 years of research. In responding, I typically limit my remarks to the published findings and state that our studies suggest that taking these glyconutritional plant polysaccharide supplements can:

1. Improve bone strength by increasing bone mineral density

2. Aid in the reduction of excess body fat

3. Help maintain or increase lean (muscle) mass

4. Facilitate or maintain healthy cholesterol and blood lipid levels

5. Increase self-reported quality of life

Improve immune health as measured by C-reactive Protein (CRP) levels.

Healthcare Crisis: A future at risk

Know the Facts

Healthcare statistics don’t lie. The effects of healthcare’s rising cost in America are both profound and pervasive. Exponential increases in cost over past decades, coupled with impending demographic shifts, stand to worsen the dismal state of healthcare in the world’s richest nation. Without reform, in due time the federal government will be paralyzed by debt, American business will be unable to compete on the world stage and the American people will be asked to sacrifice even more to avoid joining the swollen ranks of the uninsured.

As the soaring cost of healthcare has consequences for all aspects of American society, the inescapable truth is that government, business and individuals must all accept a degree of responsibility. Without a universal concern for containing the cost of healthcare, there can be little hope for any necessary action. There is no single person or entity behind the healthcare crisis facing America, nor is there a single victim. Only through a better understanding of the facts that support the reality of this crisis, we Americans can start piecing together the solutions to solve it.

12 Ways To Do Social Media Marketing With Twitter

Twitter is a wildly popular microblogging service. It involves writing Tweets, which are short updates of a maximum of 140 characters that tell your followers what you are up to. Although your Tweets are technically supposed to answer the question, “What are you doing?” Twitter has moved far beyond that. Tweets are used to share stories, link to photos, promote content, break news, and a whole lot more. Twitter has also become an incredibly important tool for social media marketing professionals. Here are 12 ways in which Twitter can be used in your social media marketing campaign.

1. Sharing Links to Items of Interest

As soon as you read something online that you think is interesting, it is easy to share it on Twitter with all of your followers. Twitter is highly effective in this manner because it is such a quick way to be able to reach a large group of people. You can also get a lot of great ideas for blog posts from Twitter since many new ideas and stories are floating around that haven’t even made it to the blogosphere and definitely not to mainstream media.

2. Building Your Network

Using Twitter is a great way to build your network because it allows you to find and follow people with similar interests. You can use Steeple to find people who live in your geographical area. You can also use other tools that help you find new people to follow based upon who your Twitter friends follow.

3. Build Relationships within Your Current Network

People in different networks often use Twitter to connect with their contacts instantly rather than using instant messaging for that purpose. Furthermore, many people use Twitter to connect with their network during events like conferences.

4. Re-Distributing Content from Your Blog or Website

Twitter can be used to redistribute content from your blog or website. However, you should take care to do this thoughtfully since many of your Twitter followers may already read your blog. For that reason, you may want to avoid using a blog plug-in that automatically Tweets your posts. Your best bet is to Tweet your content manually and customize each Tweet so it doesn’t get old.

5. Get Involved in Live Tweeting Events

Twitter launched at SXSW last year, catapulting microblogging conferences to fame. Live Tweeting events are great because they are a form of citizen journalism that allow you to connect with several new people in your niche while making active and valuable contributions to current discussions in your community.

6. Pitching Stories to Journalists on Twitter

You can send a direct message to a journalist who is following you on Twitter to pitch a story idea.

7. Communicating with Your Team

You can use Twitter as a company intranet that connects all of your employees. Twitter can be particularly useful in this regard if you have a virtual business with employees in different geographical locations. You can set your updates to private for security reasons. Anytime you are working on group projects, you can stay in touch with your team members using Twitter.

8. Brand Monitoring

Stay up to date with any mentions of your business on Twitter. If there is anything negative, you will be able to counter it quickly. You can also use Twitter as a way to receive feedback from your customers and improve your business. Just ask your followers to give their opinion on something. For example, if you designed a new website, ask your followers what they think about it and get their constructive criticisms so you can make your site design even better.

9. Acquire More Votes on Social Media Websites

If you have submitted a story to Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, or any other social voting website, tweet a link to that submission to try to score more votes from your followers. If your followers like what they see, they are sure to vote for your content.

10. Hiring People

Looking for a programmer, designer, or writer? Whatever type of professional you seek, try finding them on Twitter. Simply send your followers a tweet telling them you are looking for someone for a job. They can either recommend someone to you or offer themselves for the job. Using Twitter in this way is ideal for finding qualified freelancers. It is much more convenient than putting out a classified ad.

11. Build Your Personal Brand

When you use Twitter to talk about things as mundane as what you ate for breakfast or how you are going to sleep early tonight, you make your followers feel like you are casual and approachable. Even those with running a company that has a cold, corporate brand image could create more appeal and build a unique personal brand using Twitter.

12. Streamline Electronic Communications

When you use Twitter, you’re likely to find yourself using IM, email, and other electronic communication methods less. Twitter not only provides public chatting through Tweets, it also allows you to send direct messages. Twitter will help you streamline your electronic communications, allowing you to scale back online.

How to Become the Best Blog Site in Your Niche

Being the best blog site in your niche carries many advantages especially if you blog to make money. Operating a blog that has a strong following is a reflection of the dedication and commitment invested into the ongoing process of the blog development itself. Any blog owner/operator knows what it takes to attract and retain the average blog reader and this is not something that happens overnight.

Now if you blog to make money you can see how a strong reader base could benefit you financially. In addition your authority within the niche will make it all the easier for you to attract additional readers since other blogs will have the tendency to link to your site.

What we’re going to focus on here today is the importance of paying attention to the comments left by subscribers at your site. Within these comments you can find valuable nuggets of information that can be used to improve not only the blog but even your marketing strategy.

Here are 3 ways to use these blog reader comments that can help you become a more effective blogger and marketer.

Market Research Information

Putting out questions to your subscribers asking their opinions on certain products or trends could yield useful market research information as to current consumer preferences. Another approach could be polling your readers on what are some of their more pressing problems to which they wish they had a solution: what bugs them!

In both these scenarios the response of your subscribers could uncover a previously hidden niche or trend you could capitalize on. Market research information like this can easily cost a significant sum for a large corporation but you can collect this information right from your blog and use it to your advantage.

Blog Performance Feedback

Asking for opinions on the subjects of your post or perhaps the content itself can give you feedback as to whether you may need to make a change. Even simple inquiries about the layout of your blog, the graphics that are used, or the format of your posts could lead to dramatic improvements for the site.

Remember your blog is really for your readers so you should strive to give them what they want.

Encourages Interaction

Involving subscribers in these polling processes or even merely responding to their comments helps complete the ‘cycle’ of interactivity. This creates a sense of community for subscribers and increases their satisfaction. People like to know that their words or opinions are being heard and better yet acted upon.

Being the best blog site within your niche comes with many advantages and benefits but it also translates into a certain amount of commitment. When you blog to make money the stakes go even higher. Learning to tap into any available resource that can enhance your blog development and marketing effectiveness is a valuable skill. Using comments left by blog readers as we discussed above will allow you to put more distance between yourself and your competition. It is simply up to you to recognize and act upon any useful information a blog reader may have already left on the site for you even if it hasn’t been solicited.
