“No risk, pay the cost.  Know risk, reap the rewards.”
There’s a two sentence summary of the new book by Dr Ben Carson called “Take the risk.”  We do live in a risk-adverse culture and we put safety above everything.  We’re in the car-buying process and we want to take a pre-owned car in to the mechanic to look it over, and then we start negotiating on the extended warranty.  Dr Carson asks you to consider the following:  “by insulating ourselves from the unknown – the risks of life – we miss the great adventure of living our lives to their full potential.”

Without a doubt, I will say that life is lived fuller when risks are taken! In our case, the chronic health condition that Arthur was going through looked hopeless.  The only options medical were a radical, experimental, drug that caused more harm than the potential symptom relief.  And it was thousands of dollars out of pocket every month since it was not covered by insurance.  After doing some research we chose the natural route – not by chance, but by calculating the risks on all sides!  And thankfully, by God’s grace, and the technology of glyconutrients that he brought through this Christian company, Arthur is no longer suffering like he once did and he has been completely drug free for a years!

Dr Carson outlines his health challenge in chapter 13 of his book.  This is what he thought when he got the news of his test results, “Not until I was driving home that day did it hit me.  I remember thinking, Wow, my life may not be anywhere near as long as I thought it would be.  I began to think of all the people I was going to be abandoning: my wife, my three sons, my mother, my colleagues, my patients.  I thought of the things I’d started that I wouldn’t be able to finish.”  He goes on to list the suggestions everyone started flooding him with and how impressed he was with glyconutrients.  “Within a week of starting a glyco-nutrient regimen, my symptoms completely resolved.”

This book challenges us to “reaffirm that our lives have great purpose, and that risking wisely is the gateway to dreams fulfilled and a legacy of influence in the world around us.”  I challenge you to open your mind whether it’s in your relationships, business, or health – that when options are presented and you don’t see a clear picture right away, do your research, calculate the costs, and TAKE THE RISK!
